The Yom Kippur War/October War

The Yom Kippur War of October 1973, that laid the foundation for the need for peace in the Middle East, was the direct precursor to the Camp David Accords (Next page).

Operation Nickel Grass provided U.S. military aid to Israel during the Yom Kippur War resulted in Israel’s victory.

U.S. involvement during Operation Nickel Grass        demonstrated to Israel its inability to handle the Arab invasion and showed Egypt that U.S. intervention could turn the tide of the war from victory to defeat. This provided a strong basis for both Israel and Egypt to accept a U.S. mediated compromise at Camp David.
