Short Term Reactions: In Israel

In Israel, reactions were mostly positive, although there some key dissenting voices.

Supporting Camp David...

In Israel, most claimed that Begin was a "hero."

Many cited US support through military aid, peace with Egypt, and eased tensions as far outweighing the settlement issue.

Against Camp David...

Others, such as the Rebbe (below) as well as settlers, opposed Camp David since it disallowed settlements in the Sinai.

Overall, most Israelis hailed the Camp David Accords as a success, a cornerstone of diplomacy, and the first peace accord with a neighbor since Israel's formation; Israelis, to this day, support the premise and negotiations of the Accords.
